The Good Book Foundation is carrying out the task titled “Rybarzowice, Water Mill (1866) – inventory and documentation of tangible cultural heritage, along with site cleanup.” subsidized from the funds of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage under the program of the National Heritage Institute – Together for Heritage.

Total value of the task: PLN 57,800.00
Co-financing: 57 800,00 zł

The stone and brick mill was built in 1866 (according to the date on the gable), on the site of an earlier wooden mill, operating since the beginning of the 17th century. After World War II, the building was dilapidated and stripped of some of its equipment. The mill was stopped in the 1950s, and a bakery operated until the 1970s.

The picturesque mill complex is the only surviving relic of old milling in the county, and the only one included in the register of historical monuments.

The aim of the task is to disseminate knowledge about Silesian technical heritage, i.e. a relic of former milling in the Żywiec region – the historic water mill in Rybarzowice, by carrying out cleaning works within the monument and expanding knowledge about its historical and architectural values, including carrying out an inventory, which will allow to consolidate and preserve knowledge about the object, and performing 3D scanning of the monument. A very important element of the task is also to involve the younger generation in learning about local history by conducting an educational lesson on Silesian monuments of technology and an art contest for children from the Rybarzowice Elementary School, who will be able to learn about legends about the mill.
